What is PvP?
Horde vs. Alliance
During the creation of the guides i've made, I have used the word "PvP" often. It means Player vs. Player. Essentially, you are facing against the real Alliance or Horde players, using strategy and complex thinking to defeat them. The difference between PvP and PvE ( Player vs. Environment,) is that in PvE you aren't going against real people. You are going against something that Blizzard has created to be difficult. These are in dungeons and raids.
Battlegrounds
There are 3 forms of PvP: Battlegrounds, Arenas, and Rated Battleground
Battlegrounds is a 10 v 10, or 40 v 40 battle between the Alliance and Horde. There are currently 12 battlegrounds to que for. They reward Honor Points. You use these points to purchase lower quality PvP gear.
There are 3 types of battlegrounds: Capping the flag, Capping bases, or Getting points ( or a mix of 2 )
Capturing the flag: The goal of this battleground is to run a flag carrier in the battleground to get more flag captures then the opposing team.
Capturing Bases: The goal of this battleground is to capture more bases placed through the battleground, to get more points than the opposing team.
Getting Points: The goal of this battleground is to, you guessed it! Get more points that the opposing team. You can do this by doing specifically what the battleground goal is, and better than the opposing team.

Arenas
An Arena can be either 2v2 , 3v3, or 5v5. Players team up with their allies to go against another team. Your goal is to defeat the other team period. There is nothing like Capturing a flag, or anything like a battleground, you just want to defeat the opposing team.
You can run with a friend, 2 friends, or even 4 friends. A well built team can take down anything in its path - they use stratedgy and smart thinking to take down the enemy team.
Arenas reward Conquest Points. You use these points to purchase higher quality PvP gear.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you can't que for them. You must make a pre-made team from your server.

Rated Battlegrounds
Rated Battlegrounds are just like regular battlegrounds, but brought to another level. Instead of being rewarded Honor Points, you are rewarded Conquest Points if you win. Now, you might be thinking: "Why would I do Battlegrounds if I can just do Rated Battlegrounds to get better gear?" Well, to answer your question, The people in RBGs are already geared, and will kill you instantly with your low-quality gear. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can't que for them. You must make a pre-made team from your server.
